Sophos Central Endpoint: Connection error “WinHttpSendRequest failed: 12029” of Windows Server 2012 R2 and Windows 8.1 with Central

1. ISSUE

When we install Sophos Endpoint on computers running Windows 8.1 or servers running Windows Server 2012 R2, there will be a communication error between Endpoint and Sophos Central as follows:

ERROR Request: WinHttpSendRequest failed: 12029

In this article, techbast will show you how to fix this.

2. CAUSE

The reason for the communication error between Endpoint and Sophos Central is because computers running Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 servers have not updated Microsoft’s KB3172641 patch.

3. HOW TO FIX

We need to immediately download this update to a Windows 8.1 or Windows Server 2012 R2 server and perform a reboot to fix this.

We can update this patch through the Windows Update of a computer or you can visit the Microsoft Download Center or Microsoft Update Catalog to download directly. Direct download link of techbast will be below.
