Sophos firewall v19: How to configure Sophos firewall’s webadmin access with domain name

Overview

The article shows how to configure to allow access to the Sophos firewall’s web admin interface using the domain name without using the IP address to access it anymore

The article is done to access webadmin by domain name locally (if you need to use webadmin access from outside the Internet, you need to buy a domain name to use)

Requirement

  • Sophos firewall
  • DNS server
  • Workstation with DNS parameter is DNS server’s IP

How to configure

Install DNS server

On Windows Server

  • Click Add roles and features
  • Click Next
  • Click Next
  • Choose DNS Server
  • Click Add Features -> Click Next
  • Click Next
  • Click Next
  • Click Install
  • Waiting for installation
  • After completing the installation -> Click Close
  • Choose Tools -> Choose DNS
  • Right click in your server and choose New Zone…
  • Click Next
  • Choose Primary zone -> Click Next
  • Choose Forward lookup zone -> Click Next
  • Enter domain name that you want -> Click Next
  • Click Next
  • Click Next
  • Click Finish
  • Create DNS host -> Choose Zone that was created before -> Right click in New Host (A or AAAA)…
  • Enter name for host
  • In IP Address: Enter Sophos firewall webadmin’s IP address
  • Click Add Host

Configure workstation to point DNS to the DNS server

  • Change the DNS server on the workstation to the DNS server’s IP address
  • Access the webadmin by domain name
